Why the destination of My Son?

Located 69 km southwest of Danang, My Son is an imperial city, a center of spirituality during the reign of the Champa Kingdom. This sanctuary is an example of the architectural achievement of the Cham dynasty.

It has a large complex of religious monuments that includes more than 70 structures and 25 remains built between the 7th and 13th centuries that are preserved, these monuments were all adorned with carved friezes and other delicate ornaments of the Cham art. Another common point of these temples here is the “lingam” (phallus in French) or symbol of Shiva – protector of the Cham. Indeed, each of these places of worship includes at least one representation of the Shiva. Their architectural diversity demonstrates the talent of Cham craftsmen. This destination is compared with vestiges of Southeast Asia such as Angkor Wat, Borobudur, Vatphu, Pagan … The genius worshiped at My Son is Bhardresvara, the founding king of the Amaravati region in the second half of the fourth century – early fifth century.
