“Marketing is too important to be left to the marketing department alone,” said David Packard, co-founder of HP – one of the world’s largest information technology companies. In fact, marketing is becoming increasingly crucial for companies in the digital age. It is also a topic that interests many students shortly before graduation.

Mr Do Quang Duong – Marketing Director of Horizon Vietnam Travel – held a very exciting experience sharing session with the French Faculty class 19F6.DL. As part of the “Business Travel Management” course, his knowledge and experience left a big impression on the students.

At the beginning of the session, Duong told a few short stories before moving on to the actual lesson. He described his professional career, from his beginnings as a former student of the French Faculty to his internship at Horizon to his current position as Marketing Director. In a friendly conversation, Duong imparted the necessary knowledge and skills to help students better understand the job market and marketing.

In addition to witty stories, he also raised questions like: “What is the goal of learning marketing?” or “What is the job of marketing?” etc.

The students discussed enthusiastically and gave answers:

– Studying marketing means preparing for the future to become the head of a travel agency.

– Marketing is a means of attracting new customers and retaining existing customers.

“The most important task of marketing is to create profitable relationships for companies. And marketing cannot exist independently, but must be based on the business plan. Based on this, the executors can create a concrete and appropriate marketing plan,” emphasizes Duong. This is also the reason why Sergio Zyman – former marketing director of Coca-Cola and marketing expert – put it this way in his well-known marketing book “The End of Marketing As You Know It”.

Duong also clearly analyzed the current situation of companies. They invest a lot in marketing, but cannot sell goods or services and make money. In fact, the marketing task does not only concern the marketing department, but must be coordinated from top to bottom, starting from the smallest position such as the security guard or the parking attendant to all large and small employees of the company. Everyone must work towards the ultimate goal – customer satisfaction.

In addition to useful specialist knowledge, the students also heard his own inspiring story about his dream. Young people may hesitate, but once they have decided to pursue a path, they must be consistent and invest their heart and soul and time into the professional goal. Although all work brings with it periods of tiredness, confusion and even boredom, we need to change our attitude and perspective towards work; Sooner or later, these tireless efforts will produce good results.
