Humanitarian Journey in Mu Sang Commune, Lai Chau 23-24/11/2024

Located in the Phong Tho district, Lai Chau province, the Mu Sang commune extends along a border of 5,787 km. With its 613 family units grouping 3,628 inhabitants, mainly belonging to the Hmong and Dao ethnic groups, this region faces numerous challenges. The poverty rate reaches 49.26%, while 12.56% of families are considered at risk of poverty. The average annual per capita income is only 24.46 million VND (about 960 euros), and access to essential services such as education and healthcare remains limited due to low education levels.

Faced with these difficult living conditions, several charitable organizations, including Horizon Vietnam Travel, mobilized to bring their support to Mu Sang, with a message of hope and solidarity.

The humanitarian mission in Mu Sang did not stop at simply distributing gifts. It also brought invaluable human warmth and positive energy. Hundreds of practical gifts – rice, cooking oil, essential household items – were delivered directly to the inhabitants, bringing some comfort in the cold of winter. The installation of solar lamps also changed the lives of many families, offering them precious light in these remote regions where electricity remains a luxury out of reach.

Beyond this, a team of doctors and volunteers offered free medical consultations to hundreds of people. Ultrasounds, endoscopies, cancer screenings, and distribution of medicines allowed the inhabitants not only to benefit from basic care but also to be better informed about disease prevention. Small gestures, but an enormous impact on the daily lives of this community.

The mission required considerable efforts from the participants. Over 1,000 km were traveled between round trips on winding roads, often shrouded in thick fog and marked by landslides. The group members, who left as early as 4 in the morning, faced these obstacles with exemplary determination.

A volunteer confided: “Only love can erase distances and difficulties.” Upon arriving in Mu Sang, the radiant smiles of the inhabitants and their deep gratitude dispersed all the fatigue accumulated during the journey. From the amazed looks of the children to the sincere emotion of the elderly, each interaction reinforced the participants’ motivation to continue these meaningful actions.

This mission in Mu Sang illustrates the power of solidarity and borderless humanity.
