Our Humanitarian Action in Northern Vietnam in 2016

Committed to responsible tourism, HORIZON VIETNAM TRAVEL carries out humanitarian actions every year to help disadvantaged children and families in the country.

This weekend of September 17 and 18, 2016, we organized a humanitarian project “Ao am vung cao” – “Winter coats for the mountains” – to help the two poorest villages of Khau Qua and Nam Dai in Nam Mau commune, Ba Be district, a mountainous region located in northeast Vietnam.

During a trip to Ba Be a few months earlier, the HORIZON VIETNAM TRAVEL team had the opportunity to exchange with the kindergarten teacher of this region, and we identified the urgent needs of the local population living in these villages. This is why our agency chose it as the destination for 2016.

After 5 hours of travel, we arrived at Ba Be, and to spend the first night there, very early the next morning, the HORIZON VIETNAM TRAVEL team and volunteers (12 people in total) headed toward Khau Qua and Nam Dai. Since road conditions are very difficult, we mobilized 11 motorcycles and a small special truck to transport gifts for residents. After 35 km on motorcycles following mountain trails, we arrived at the school of the commune.

On site, we found that the conditions for residents here are very difficult – they lack water, electricity, there is no internet or phones. The local population lives essentially from corn farming and some livestock raising. This school brings together 40 elementary students and 31 kindergarten students who are members of 52 poor families.
Our group offered 52 blankets to the 52 families for this winter.
Other gifts were distributed to the 71 school children, including 71 winter coats, 71 wool hats, 71 sandals, 200 notebooks, and pencils.

The men of the villages were also very happy with other gifts – 40 quality shirts from the donor “Mr Dung Shop” of Hanoi. We also offered small meaningful gifts for the teachers such as wall clocks, winter blankets, and clothing…

We completed this humanitarian project successfully, filled with emotions, tears of joy, and happiness. The smiles of the mountain children warmed our hearts and gave us courage to continue our future actions.
