Supporting Victims of Agent Orange in HUNG HA District, THAI BINH Province, Vietnam 2017

As usual, Horizon Vietnam Travel’s association carries out humanitarian activities once a year to help poor populations in isolated high mountain regions as well as disabled children.

This year, 2017, our agency decided to help families who were victims of agent orange from the war against the American army.

During the last war of the 20th century, Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia suffered a spillage of 2,865,808 tons of bombs, or between 3 and 4 times the bombs dropped during all of World War II, or the equivalent of 450 Hiroshima atomic bombs.

During this violent war (between 1965-1974), the American army killed over one million Vietnamese soldiers, over 2 million civilians, and caused over four million wounded.

The war ended over 40 years ago, but the consequences still remain.

The negative effects considered among the most dramatic today are those caused by agent orange bombs.

Today, the number of Vietnamese victims is estimated at over 4.8 million.

Agent orange, which contains dioxin, is suspected of causing two types of dramatic consequences: serious diseases such as tumors and reproductive abnormalities, birth defects. There are children of the third generation who are born in turn with infirmities suspected of being caused by agent orange, even though their parents are in good health.

Today, these victims are scattered throughout Vietnam.

It is for this reason that this year Horizon Vietnam Travel decided to organize our visit and assistance activities to victims severely affected.

On Saturday, June 17, our team of 10 people with 2 vehicles, one of which carried gifts, went to the site to meet 30 families of victims and distributed a gift of 800,000 VND for each family.

On the spot, we were in a sad and disturbing atmosphere, we were truly touched by these people barely in their thirties who remain immobile on small beds; cared for by a very elderly and very poor mother or father. Many cases are at the same time deaf, blind, and mute. Every day, they struggle to survive.

According to us, “the victims of Agent Orange are among the most unfortunate and are the poorest of the poor”.

We are very sensitive, proud of our meaningful actions with a fund that is still quite limited, but through this activity, we hope we can also convey a message to everyone, to various associations within Vietnam and abroad to come and help them.
