Son La Province Tour

Son La is located in a wide valley 165 km from Dien Bien Phu and 121 km from Moc Chau, near the border with Laos. This city of an important agglomeration extends over the territory of the former French colonial province.

The territory of the province is occupied 80% by the forest and the mountain, Moc Chau and Na San are two vast plateaus at 600 m of altitude which are famous for the culture of Tea and the breeding of dairy cows. The main Ma and Da rivers cross the province for 150 km, the province also has many grasslands which are favorable for raising cattle and horses. The forests give several species of precious wood: rosewood, stick-lac, etc.

There are also tin, copper, and zinc mines. Son La offers travelers on their way to Dien Bien Phu the possibility of stopping for one night. This region is populated by many ethnic groups representing Vietnam such as the Viet, the Thai, the Hmong, the Dao, the Xinh, the Kho Mu, the Tay, the Muong, and the Hoa people. The central market of the black Thais and the old penitentiary built by the French during the French colonial era are among the very interesting sites to visit.
