Vietnam and Belgium have maintained diplomatic relations since March 22, 1973. Through the willingness of each partner, this history has evolved into a relationship that is today close and rich in partnership. High-level visits between the two countries take place regularly, such as the visit of Crown Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde to Vietnam in March 2012 and the visit of Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to Belgium in January 2013.
